Before publicly announcing the campaign, the abortion ship sailed out with 2 women to international waters.

Press conference, red flags and guards
On April 21st, Women on Waves and the partner organizations held a press conference in Ixtapa, where participants stated the need for safe and legal abortion on demand throughout Mexico. Open ship's day
Saturday April 22 morning: As the red flag was still up in the harbour, no ships were allowed to leave to the sea. As the ship would not be able to sail out with women today, the press and participants from the conference

Application for legal stays granted by the Judge
The lawyers of Gire presented a request for legal stays for the crew of the boat and the director of Women on waves, so that they cannot be expelled from the country.

Abortion ship sailed outside Mexican territorial waters for second time.
For immediate release April 22, 2017: Women on Waves sailed out again with several women to international waters today from Zihuatanejo, Mexico. There was no interference from the authorities. The ship did not need any special permission for coastal sailing.

Safe abortion hotline received overwhelming number of calls
