Women&More study in the Netherlands has started!

Unlike traditional contraceptive methods—such as the pill, patch, vaginal ring, injection, hormonal IUD, or implant—this medication does not contain estrogen or progestogen. As a result, it is expected to cause fewer side effects compared to hormone-based contraceptives.

Participants in the study will take one 50 mg tablet of mifepristone per week for a year, using it as their sole method of contraception.

The researchers aim to:

• Show that the risk of pregnancy is very low
• Confirm the safety of the drug and monitor for any serious health effects
• Evaluate whether it causes fewer side effects than hormonal contraceptives
• Understand how participants experience taking one tablet per week

If the results are positive, the ultimate goal is to register mifepristone 50 mg as a contraceptive with regulatory authorities—offering a hormone-free option and expanding the range of choices available for birth control in the future.
