Abortion ship Mexico, April 2017
Women on Waves arrived in Ixtapa on April 19 th on the invitation of more than 40 Mexican women's organisations. Abortion is only legal in Mexico DF since 10 years but abortion is still illegal in the rest of Mexico.
On April 20 th, before announcing the campaign publicly, the ship sailed out to international waters with two women. In international waters, outside the jurisdiction of Mexico and Guerrero, the women received safe medical abortions. The goal of the campaign is to call attention to the violation of women's rights caused by the restrictive abortion law in Guerrero. Here you can read more about the campaign

Before publicly announcing the campaign, the abortion ship sailed out with 2 women to international waters.
It was difficult to leave the harbour of Ixtapa because of the waves at the entrance so we decided to return with the ship to the bay of Zihuatanejo. On the way the ship was saluted… Więcej »
Open ship's day
Saturday April 22 morning: As the red flag was still up in the harbour, no ships were allowed to leave to the sea. As the ship would not be able to sail out with women today, the press and participants from the conference
visited the abortion ship moored near the peer.
Meanwhile a women's rights conference took place in a nearby hotel
As part of the ships visit a conference about abortion rights was organised in a hotel near the harbour. Women's rights organisations from all over Mexico participated. Więcej »

Abortion ship sailed outside Mexican territorial waters for second time.
For immediate release April 22, 2017: Women on Waves sailed out again with several women to international waters today from Zihuatanejo, Mexico. There was no interference from the authorities. The ship did not need any special permission for coastal sailing.

Safe abortion hotline received overwhelming number of calls
After the press conference on friday April 21 th, women with unwanted pregnancies started calling to hotline. At around 9 o'clock in the evening in the evening more that 35 women who needed help already called. Więcej »
