The Abortion Ship is heading to İzmir

 

The Abortion ship is coming to Turkey to protest the de-facto abortion ban. The representatives from the ship with negociate with local organizations today.

 

The ship which visits to countries where abortion is illegal is heading to Turkey. After the declarations of prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan about the issue, the founder of Women on Waves Rebecca Gomperts will meet with local organisations to plan the ship campaign. The ship is expected in 2014 in Izmir.

 

The Ship will Approach to İzmir in 2014

 

The movement Women on Waves was founded by a group of women in Holland in order to protest the abortion ban Ireland. For ten years,Women on Waves has been visiting the countries where abortion is illegal. With a group of doctors and nurses the ship approaches to the harbours of different countries to take women to the international territorial waters to end their pregnancies. For 10 years, the ship was not allowed in several countries and in many countries it was protested. After the declarations of the prime minister against abortion, women founded a platform called "Abortion is our Right." Seeing the de-facto abortion ban in Turkey, the abortion ship is heading to Turkey to negociate with a delegation from the platform. The first negociations between the platform and WOmen on Web is going to take place today.

The representative of Women on Waves and the platform of "Abortion is our Right." will meet n Istanbul. Rebecca Gomperts will visit Turkey on 18 May one more time, to include more organisations to the movement. It is declared that the ship will include some Turkish women with Holland citizenship. The ship will approach to İzmir to take some women to the international territorial waters to end their pregnancies. As the platform claims that there is a de-facto abortion ban in Turkey, similarly the ship will also protest this ban.
