In 2014 Minister of Health Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė undertook a project to legalize medical abortion in Lithuania and sought to draft a new legal act regulating abortion. The project did not gather sufficient support to progress and therefore medical abortion is still not allowed in Lithuania.
