Can I take part of the Misoprostol/Cytotec orally and part vaginally. Is this effective?
We only advise women to EITHER take the pills vaginally OR under the tongue (dissolve under the tongue for 30 minutes and only swallow the pills after that). She should not swallow it because this is much less effective. She can also put the tablets with her fingers as deep as possible in her vagina. (in the back where the womb starts) The medicines will not work when they are in the entrance of the vagina!!! The pills work even better if they are made wet before putting them in the vagina.)
There is however a small advantage to using the pills under the tongue, if a woman is scared to take medicine vaginally, or concerned she may need medical attention right away, she may use the pills under the tongue and in this way, no remains of the pills can be found in the event that she may need to go to a hospital.
